About & Contact

Hi, I'm Hilly. I'm an artist and art historian living and working in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.
My paintings are inspired by the natural world and the artistic traditions that have shaped how we see it for centuries. I draw inspiration from gardens, coastlines, landscapes, antique textiles, decorative arts, and the rich visual history found in museums and historic homes. I'm fascinated by the ways beauty and meaning are carried across generations, and those influences often surface in my work through color, atmosphere, and expressive mark-making.
Before becoming a full-time artist, I spent years working in museums and galleries while studying art history in depth. I earned a bachelor's degree in Art History from Arizona State University and a master's degree from Sotheby's Institute of Art, London. Long before I began creating paintings of my own, I was fascinated by the ways art connects people across time and place. That perspective continues to shape my work today.
I create florals, landscapes, and abstract paintings that balance observation with imagination. Some begin with a place I've visited. Others emerge from a memory, a historical reference, or a decorative motif that captures my attention. Through layered color, expressive brushwork, and intuitive mark-making, I aim to create work that feels both collected and contemporary—grounded in tradition while remaining fresh and personal.
I believe art should do more than fill a wall. It should bring beauty, character, and meaning to a home. My hope is that each painting invites a moment of pause and becomes part of the stories unfolding around it.
Thank you for visiting. I'm honored to share my work with you, and I hope you discover a piece that feels at home in your own life.
